Cerbaiona Rosso di Montalcino 2021
Cerbaiona is a small estate, barely 4 hectares in size, located on one of the finest terroirs in Montalcino. It was originally managed by Diego Molinari, a retired Alitalia pilot, who produced some magnificent Brunellos. The estate has since changed hands, and day-to-day operations are now overseen by Matthew Fioretti, an American of Italian heritage. Matthew is exceptionally driven and holds strong convictions about how wine can and should be crafted, which aligns well with our own beliefs. The vineyard has been meticulously tended to, with less favorable grape clones and rootstocks being replaced with top-quality material. The outcome is wines of exceptional refinement, utmost purity, and true varietal character that rank among the region’s finest. The only downside is the limited production, with just 6,888 bottles and 500 magnums produced in 2017, and even fewer in 2018.
Matthew is also engaged in a project in Pienza, following the same philosophy, and we can offer you some rare bottles from that venture as well.
Oh, and you won’t find any wine scores for these bottles anywhere. Matthew considers it somewhat absurd to reduce the complexity of wine to a numerical rating, a sentiment we share. You can certainly write a review, but there will be no points assigned, which is why most reviewers aren’t inclined to make the effort
