Domaine Changarnier Meursault Les Malpoiriers 2021
Product Details
Antoine and Claude Changarnier inherited this century-old domain in 2004 and they engaged Fabrice Groussin as director. Ambition was high and immediately they started the qualitative rebuilding of cellar and vineyards. The domain owns just under 5ha of vineyards mainly in Monthelie with some plots in Auxey-Duresses, Meursault and Pommard. The estate is certified organic, all wines mature for 12 months in wooden barrels, 15-20% of which are new, and several more months in cuve. Before bottling, the wines are not clarified and barely filtered. The wines have already recently received very nice reviews in Bourgogne Aujourd’hui and this year also top scores in Wine Enthousiast.
Particularly fine Meursault from a vineyard near Clos de la Barre. A layer of dark clay on pure chalk, planted with 60-year-old vines. The wine is raised in a new 500l Stockinger barrel and this gives a nuanced, very pure wine with a shimmering, intense rich but balanced flavour and long complex finish, really quite beautiful!
Bourgogne Aujourd’hui: “Arômes frais, précis, à dominante agrumes… Bouche pure, avec un bel équilibre entre gras, vivacité et une bonne longueur.”

Inside Burgundy: “This is an impressive domaine which is continuing to invest so as to improve further. They are adding further vineyards in Monthelie and Pommard, with additional winery and cellar space. They have been certified organic since 2019 with some biodynamic practices in place.“
“Still a pale colour but with clearly riper aromatics, blossom and a light fresh apricot touch. Mostly Stockinger wood. A blunt clay-based richness to the nose. Plenty of weight though, a broad-shouldered wine with a good balance between fruit oak and acidity to finish. Lengthens nicely after the blunter beginning. Quite typical Meursault though.” ***
