Domaine des Bosquets Gigondas Le Lieu Dit 2017
Bosquets is a top terroir containing a small enclave of pure fine sand, locally called “Safres”. This is the vineyard that surrounds the cuverie. Despite its lower altitude, this is still where the last harvest is done. This is because the plot is surrounded by higher rocks and forest and receives less direct sun. That, together with the sandy soil gives the estate’s most nuanced, refined wine and this without sacrificing volume and power. Simply delicious! In fact, vines were planted on this plot as early as the 14th century! Yield of barely 18hl/ha, 4200 bottles and 180 magnums bottled.
Jeb Dunnuck: “The 2017 Gigondas le Lieu Dit is, as always, the most finesse oriented and elegant in the lineop. Coming from a sandy, cooler parcel just outside the domaine and all Grenache (70% destemmed) brought up in old demi-muids, it offers a more ruby color as wel as a massive perfume of wild strawberries, kirsch liqueur, dried soil, and flowery incense. Full bodied, incredibly pure, and perfectly balanced, it’s another straight-up thrilling wine from Brechet that will benefit from 2-3 years of bottle age and keep for 10-15 years or more.” 97/100
Joe Czerwinski (Wine Advocate): “The 2017 Gigondas le Lieu Dit incorporates 30% whole clusters yet shows no green, stemmy characters at this stage of its evolution. It’s loaded with purple raspberries, framed by incredibly silky tannins, lush and ripe without any warmth evident on the long finish. Tasted twice, showing more tannic grip and woody notes on one occasion. 93/100
