La Canonica di San Vincenti IGT 2017

A new estate located in Gaiole in Chianti Classico and owned by a Belgian family. This wine is from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet-Franc, partly aged in wooden barrels. The winemaker is none other than Markus Edler von der Planitz, a professional who more than earned his stripes at top domains such as Montevertine, Castello di Ama and was also responsible for the great wines of Castello dei Rampolla, clearly someone who understands his craft...! I found the first years a tad too austere, too much on sheer power, but here too there is an increasing search for finesse and elegance. This 2017 already tells a different story, more finesse without sacrificing power. This producer is definitely worth your attention.
