In early 2014, Comtesse Alexandra de Vazeilles purchased Château des Bachelards in Fleurie, one of the oldest and most beautiful estates in Beaujolais. She immediately invested in top-notch equipment for the vineyard and cellar and works with experts, including Stéphane Derenoncourt for vinification. The results were evident from the first year: her wines scored highly, and with the 2015 and 2016 vintages, her estate is already considered among the top in the region by the international press. The terroir of this Moulin-à-Vent is a mix of old black granite and slate rocks with a clay and limestone layer. After manual harvesting and fermentation in concrete vats, the wine ages for 20 months in oak barrels. The result is a full, powerful wine with aging potential of at least 20 years.

This I.G.P. Comtés Rhodaniens is from 100% Gamay from 50- to 80-year-old vines at 10,000st/ha in AOP Fleurie. The vineyards are farmed biodynamically and yield barely 20hl/ha. After manual picking, the grapes are fully de-stemmed and fermented with natural yeast in concrete cuves for three weeks, after which the wine matures for a further eight months on steel cuves. This gives wine with a fine and fresh aroma of red fruit with a hint of pepper and some floral notes, semi-full and fruity on the palate with slightly spicier finish. Can be drunk young, but certainly keeps for quite a few years. And only 12.78% alcohol!
