You may have seen it in the news: PFAS — the so-called “forever chemicals” — are turning up in everything from drinking water to rain, and even wine. But should we be worried?
The short answer: no — not if you drink in moderation and choose quality wines.
What exactly are PFAS?
PFAS are synthetic chemicals that repel water, grease, and dirt. They've been used for decades in things like non-stick pans and waterproof clothing. The problem? They don’t break down easily and can accumulate in the environment and in our bodies.
Are there PFAS in wine?
Some analyses have found tiny traces of PFAS in wine. How do they get there? Through rainwater, irrigation, or even materials used during winemaking. But the concentrations are extremely lowoften below detection limits — and well below the safety thresholds established in Europe.
Is it a health risk?
According to European food safety authorities, the amount of PFAS you might ingest through wine negligible In other words: a good glass of wine is no cause for concern..
What’s our approach?
We work with passionate producers who care about people and the planet. Many of our winemakers farm organically or follow eco-friendly practices — which naturally limits the use of PFAS-related materials.
Enjoying a glass of wine should remain exactly that: enjoyment. Use common sense, choose consciously, and most importantly — enjoy in moderation.
Cheers! 🍷
