Not many vineyards still have ungrafted grapes. However, the vineyard where this wine is harvested is more than 175 years old. Moreover, it is located in Piano d'Angelo, reputedly the most beautiful vineyard in Taurasi. This is a particularly rich wine, full-bodied and powerful, with a very varied bouquet in which you constantly discover new aromas. On top of that, it is also very charming and fine, a not obvious combination. Only 1500 bottles of this were produced. 2011 is the first Riserva since the memorable 2007.

Ian d'Agatha: Best Italian full-bodied red wine of the year: As much as I love the three “B’s” of Italian wine (Barolo, Barbaresco and Brunello) my vote goes to the 2010 Guastaferro Taurasi Primum, a heady mix of ripe red fruit, tar and licorice aromas and flavors with some age on them.
