Castello dei Rampolla Chianti Classico 2017
2017 is another very nice year in terms of quality, but spring frosts, hail and the dry summer made production particularly small and Rampolla harvested barely half of normal! But the result is a quite powerful, full-bodied, creamy Chianti, typical of wines from the Conca d'Oro, the warmest terroir of the Classico.
"The 2017 Chianti Classico is a tad too ripe for my tastes. You taste the heat of the vintage in those aromas of blackberry preserves and strawberry jam. Background notes of apricot and candied orange peel add to that characteristic hot vintage bouquet. I would suggest a near-term drinking window as a result." RP
