Domaine Jean Fournier Marsannay Blanc “Cuvée Saint Urbain” 2023
"Just finished its sugar in the summer. The blend is 70% regular chardonnay, 10% chardonnay rose, 10% pinot blanc and the rest a mix of bits and pieces which happen to be complanted. Mid lemon yellow. Quite floral, even a fraction musky, with fascinating generosity on the palate, ripe citron confit with a mineral background as well. Drink from 2026-2029." **** Jasper Morris MW
This wine is a blend of various plots, primarily planted with Chardonnay, complemented by a small amount of Chardonnay Rosé – a rare mutation that occurs only sporadically in Marsannay – and a few percent of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Beurot. The result is a wine with a crystal-clear aroma, an intense, full-bodied flavour, and a long finish. Although it is usually enjoyed young, my experience shows that this wine continues to develop beautifully over several years.
Laurent Fournier is a rising star in the Burgundy world. His wines from Marsannay easily reach the level of those from Nuits or Gevrey, but at half the price. A must for true Burgundy lovers.
