San Francesco was the first vineyard Antoniolo vinified separately. Fermentation with natural yeasts in small steel and cement vats, followed by maturation in 25hl oak barrels for up to 3 years. This results in a deeply coloured, very fragrant, complex, strong-tasting fruity-mineral wine with a long finish for Nebbiolo. These wines are made according to the principles of natural wine and can develop amazingly beautifully in the bottle for a long time. Less known than the wines from the Langhe, but certainly on the same level, something that more and more wine lovers are starting to discover.
Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “The 2010 Gattinara San Francesco is the most accessible of the estate’s three single-vineyard Gattinaras. Another intense, powerful wine, the San Francesco occasionally also show a more tender, welcoming side of its personality. Sweet tobacco, licorice and dried herbs all add nuance to the beautifully textured. There is a level of sweetness and openness to the San Francesco that the other wines don’t offer, at least not today.” 94/100
