Antoniolo Gattinara San Francesco 2012
San Francesco was the first vineyard Antoniolo vinified separately. Fermentation with natural yeasts in small steel and cement vats, followed by maturation in 25hl oak barrels for up to 3 years. This results in a deeply coloured, very fragrant, complex, strong-tasting fruity-mineral wine with a long finish for Nebbiolo. These wines are made according to the principles of natural wine and can develop amazingly beautifully in the bottle for a long time. Less known than the wines from the Langhe, but certainly on the same level, something that more and more wine lovers are starting to discover.
Monica Larner (WA): “This is a special wine with its own cult following. The 2012 Gattinara San Francesco stands apart for its apparent fruit intensity and the extra density and richness that it so generously offers to the palate. Dark cherry and blackberry drive a long and exuberant finish.” 91/100
