Cantine Guastaferro Taurasi “Primum” Riserva 2011
In Ian d’Agatha’s recent article in Vinous on the wines of Campania, this one came out as the very best Taurasi and that ahead of many, better-known wines! Grandiose wine quite simply!
Ian d’Agatha: “Best Italian full-bodied red wine of the year: As much as I love the three “B’s” of Italian wine (Barolo, Barbaresco and Brunello) my vote goes to the 2010 Guastaferro Taurasi Primum, a heady mix of ripe red fruit, tar and licorice aromas and flavors with some age on them.“
Wine Enthusiast:(Kerin O’Keefe): “Aromas of smoke, charred earth, dark spice and black-skinned berry lift out of the glass. The concentrated firmly structured palate offers dried black cherry, blackberry extract, ground pepper and a hint of tobacco framed in fine-grained tannins.”
Quinten Sadler: ” This is a great red wine. Try it if you can”
Morell: “WOW.The nose showed dark, earthy, rich fruit, with sweet lifting herbal and dysty florals, ashen-minerality and balsamic notes. On the palate, I found velvety textures offset by sweet-and-sour dark red plummy fruits, with zesty acids addding lift as citrus tinged minerals and spice saturated the senses. The finish was long and structured with wood-infused dark red fruit.” 95/100
