Capanna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015
Capanna Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2015
Luca Gardini: “This Brunello from the Cencioni family demonstrates an excellent interpretation. Montosoli area, a wine characterized by a floral nose of geranium, alcohol-infused cherries, ending on the notes of cinnamon. Juicy and taut mouth, salty tannins. A balsamic and fruity taste returning on the finish.” 98/100
RP: “The 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva offers rich darkness and lots of blackberry fruit and plum. The wine shows an accessible and open personality, putting all its beauty right out there for you to admire. Unlike the more mercurial and shape-shifting 2016 vintage, this expression from 2015 delivers frankness and naked beauty. The tannins are soft and ripe, and the wine is just raring to go, without delay, next to a hearty serving of Bistecca alla Fiorentina. This wine is aged in Slavonian oak casks for an extended 44 months, and 12,000 bottles (including large formats) will be released in January 2021.” 95/100
Patrizio and Amedeo Cencioni’s Capanna is located near the Montosoli hill, on the northern side of the appellation, where the soils are rich in galestro rocks and marine deposits. The area benefits especially from steep diurnal temperature shifts that give the wines bright freshness.
Year after year, the Cencioni family produces top-class, long-lived, classic Brunello from their high-altitude south-southwest facing vineyards in the Montesoli region. The high altitude lends the wines their tension and minerality, while the southern exposure ensures good ageing, the best of both worlds.
