Castello dei Rampolla d’Alceo 2012
85% Cabernet-Sauvignon and 15% Petit-Verdot planted on a south-facing slope, entirely according to the laws of bio dynamics. d’Alceo is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest wines. The average scores for this wine are significantly higher than those of any Bordeaux Premier Grand Cru. That says it all.
Vinous (Antonio Galloni: “The 2012 d’Alceo is sweet, round and enveloping. Silky tannins give the 2012 much of its shape, while adding to the wine’s appeal. Plum, black cherry, menthol, licorice and sweet spices wrap around the fleshy, succulent finish. Like the Sammarco, d’Alceo is a bit restrained in this vintage.”
Wine Advocate (Monica Larner): “The 2012 d’Alceo is a Tuscan blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. This is a more challenging vintage. There is a heavy layer of ripe fruit with sweet strawberry and dried blackberry that is hard to dig past in order to reach more delicate and complex nuances. The 2012 summer heat and lack of rain makes for less dimension. The wine drinks nicely now, but I would suggest a near to medium-term drinking window.”
