Cerbaiona is that small domain of barely 4ha on one of the very best terroirs of Montalcino where Diego Molinari, a retired Alitalia pilot, produced some magnificent Brunellos. The domain has since been sold and the day-to-day management is now in the hands of Matthew Fioretti, an American of Italian descent. Matthew is very ambitious and has very strong ideas about how wine can and should be made and we agree very well! The vineyard is cleaned up and the less good clones and rootstocks are replaced by top material. The result: particularly refined, extremely pure, varietal wines that belong to the top of the region. Only problem: only 6,888 bottles and 500 magnums made in 2017… Matthew is also working on a project at Pienza in the same philosophy and we can offer you some rare bottles from that too.

Oh yes, no scores for these wines anywhere. Matthew finds it quite absurd to summarize wine in a number and we can follow him. You can write a review, but no points, which is why most reviewers don’t even want to make the effort.
