Domaine Michel Noëllat Echezeaux “Du Dessus” Grand Cru 2021
Domaine Michel Noëllat owns in 2 “lieu-dit’s” of this great Grand Cru, “Echezeaux du dessus” and “Les Treux”, but one does not find the wine of the latter at Grand cru level and it is sold to the trade in full every year. “Echezeaux du dessus”, however, is THE top terroir and borders Grands-Échzeaux”. The estate owns 2 plots here, separated only there the plot of “cousine” Cécile Tremblay. Here there are 70-year-old vines in perhaps the best, historic part of this Grand Cru. After manual picking with rigorous selection, complete destemming, short cold maceration and long cuvaison of 20 days with remontage and pigeage several times a day , there follows a 16-month ageing in 70% new oak barrels. The result is a delicious, full-bodied, powerful but also extremely elegant wine with an almost intoxicating bouquet. Great wine, highly recommended!
Inside Burgundy: “A fine glowing mid purple. There is a good weight of fruit and some elegance, a little nuance in a pretty red berry fruit manner. A density of strawberry and raspberry, with again a little cover of oak vanillin, fair length.” 92-95/100
