Domaine des Croix Beaune 1°cru Les Tuvilains 2020
Les Tuvilains is the most recent acquisition, a small plot with 85-year-old vines. very charming wine.
I have been following this estate for years and am very impressed by the particular finesse and purity David Croix manages to bring to his wines. After all, he is also the man who managed to bring the wines of Camille Giroud back to top level, and at Roulot, too, his input was invaluable. From now on, all his attention will be exclusively on his own estate. Is he the man to give the superb yet somewhat misunderstood terroirs of Beaune back the renommée they deserve? By the looks of it, he is doing plenty of that! Beaune was hardly touched by the spring frost and here, the 2021s are absolutely stunning!
Jasper Morris MW: “This vineyard joined the stable in 2016, but does not seem to have enjoyed 2020 very much. Solid dark colour, very chunky on the nose, predominantly black fruit. Rich fruitcake style palate with just enough acidity to keep it more or less in balance but it is not my wine. 25% whole bunch.” **
