Gagliole Colli della Toscana Centrale Pecchia 2015
Gagliole Colli della Toscana Centrale Pecchia 2015
Pecchia is Gagliole’s top wine. This wine is made from a super selection of the very best grapes from the Vigna Grande vineyard in Panzano. Located at 500 metres altitude with a clay-limestone soil on the vaunted Albarese. Vinification is “integral” ttz. “en barrique” , which greatly benefits the fusion of the wood. The softer, slower extraction allows the wine to remain on the skins for up to 45 days. It then goes for 18 months on gently over charcoal toasted barriques, about 70% new and then another six months in bottle before release. Totally different in character from the Gallule and with the “warmer” of Panzano, this is Gagliole’s top wine and immediately one of the greatest Sangiovese wines we know. Produced only in top years and even then in minuscule quantities, barely 1,000 bottles in 2015, this is an exclusive, expensive wine, proving once again that Chianti Classico can produce wines that are among the finest on the planet!
Wine Advocate (Monica Larner): “This wine was not produced in 2014. The 2015 Pecchia sees fruit sourced from the estate’s best Sangiovese planted at 500 meters above sea level. What stands out most here is the wine’s texture, which is firm and tightly knit. That compact nature of the fruit bodes very well for the future aging potential of this wine that I expect will play forward for ten years or more. The wine shows muscle and power that is applied with broad brush strokes. Despite the evident depth and dimension on offer here, this wine remains a bit closed and shy at this young stage. Pecchia requires more patience. Only 2,500 bottles were made.” 95/100
