The Casanova dell’ Aia vineyard is 4.5 ha near Radda at an altitude of 500 metres and a south-facing position. The soil here is rich in skeleton with alternating marl limestone (Alberese and Galestro) and good presence of clay. This is the youngest planting with real on material and we see the level rising with each new harvest and shows the huge potential of this vineyard. The wine ferments in stainless steel cuves at a maximum temperature of 30°C with regular remontages (pumping over). The skin soaking lasts up to 45 days! Afterwards, the wine goes into 10 hl to 40 hl large Austrian oak barrels from Stockinger or Pauscha. Everything is put on quality here! Vigna Casanova dell’ Aia (in Radda) is a truly magnificent and extremely varietal, powerful and fresh Chianti Classico with a quasi-perfect balance between concentration and freshness and a wonderfully long finish. Istine is not very well known yet, but make no mistake, this really is a top domain!

A wine of breadth and dimension, the Cavarchione is driven by bright acids and a whole range of earthy, savory flavors. Game, wild herbs, tobacco, incense and plum all develop in the glass. The tannins need time to soften, naturally, but there is a ton to explore here.”95/100
