Istine Chianti Classico Vigna Cavarchione 2019
Product Details
Merk: Istine

The Cavarchione vineyard covers 6 hectares and is located in Gaiole near the hamlet of Vertine, at an altitude of 420 metres on an easterly orientation. The soil is quite classic, with mainly galestro and also alberese. Again, it is a very high-quality vineyard, which is already immediately apparent, despite the relatively young vines on average. The wine ferments in stainless steel cuves at a maximum temperature of 30°C with regular remontages (pumping over). The skin soaking lasts up to 45 days! Afterwards, the wine goes into 10 hl to 40 hl Austrian oak barrels from Stockinger or Pauscha. Everything is put on quality here! Vigna Cavarchione gives a powerful and full-flavoured, particularly beautiful Chianti that still needs some time to unfold all its qualities. Istine is not very well known yet, but it is clearly a top domain!

Antonio Galloni (Vinous): “The 2019 Chianti Classico Vigna Cavarchione is, along with the Riserva, one of most powerful of the Chianti Classicos in this range. A wine of breadth and dimension, the Cavarchione is driven by bright acids and a whole range of earthy, savory flavors. Game, wild herbs, tobacco, incense and plum all develop in the glass. The tannins need time to soften, naturally, but there is a ton to explore here.” 95/100

Antonio Galloni (Vinous): To say I was blown away by the Istine wines this year would be a massive understatement. These new releases are positively stellar. Proprietor Angela Fronti crafts some of the most distinctive Chianti Classicos readers will come across. The single-vineyard wines are each incredibly unique. Istine emerges from a parcel between Radda and Castellina, while Casanova dell’Aia is near Radda and Cavarchione is in Gaiole. The Riserva Le Vigne is a blend of all three. Aging is done in cask. These are among the most thrilling wines I tasted this year.

Michaela Morris (Decanter):Though firmly rooted in the township of Radda, Istine’s Angela Fronti slips into neighboring commune of Gaiole to craft this single-vineyard bottling. At 430 meters on rocky Galestro soil, the six-hectares site is planted entirely to Sangiovese. It exudes aromas of fennel, mint, tarragon an wild cherry, with blood orange and crushed stones on the palate. Though midnight, it has an extra layer of flesh compared to the classic annata. Firm, chalky tannins expand across the palate giving an assertive grip, with slightly salty finish. Drinking window 2023-2033″ 94/100
