La Canonica di San Vincenti IGT 2018 Cabernet Franc

In 2008, the De Maeseneire family decided to keep 1 caskl of Cabernet-Franc separate. They bottled the wine with a dash (5%) of Sangiovese and filled exactly 1,200 bottles of this suave, supple, delicious Cabernet-Franc, not to be missed, a collector’s item because they did not repeat the exercise.
A new estate located in Gaiole in Chianti Classico and owned by a Belgian family. This wine is from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet-Franc, partly aged in wooden barrels. The winemaker is none other than Markus Edler von der Planitz, an enologist who more than earned his stripes at top domains such as Montevertine, Ama and was also responsible for the great wines of Rampolla, clearly someone who understands his craft…!
I found the first years a tad too austere, too much on pure power, but here too finesse and elegance are increasingly sought after and this 2018 is a big step in the right direction and definitely worth your attention.
