A new estate located in Gaiole in Chianti Classico and owned by a Belgian family. This wine is from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet-Franc, partly aged in wooden barrels. The winemaker is none other than Markus Edler von der Planitz, a professional who more than earned his stripes at top domains such as Montevertine and Ama, clearly someone who understands his craft…! I found the first years a tad too austere, too much on sheer power, but here too there is an increasing search for finesse and elegance. This 2017 already tells a different story, more finesse without sacrificing power. This producer is definitely worth your attention.
