La Canonica di San Vincenti IGT 2019

A new estate located in Gaiole in Chianti Classico and owned by a Belgian family. This wine is from 95% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet-Franc, partly aged in wooden barrels. The winemaker is none other than Markus Edler von der Planitz, a winemaker who more than earned his stripes at top domains such as Montevertine, Castello di Ama and was also responsible for the great wines of Castello dei Rampolla, clearly someone who understands his craft…! I found the first years a tad too austere, too much on pure power, but here too finesse and elegance are increasingly sought after and this 2019 is a great example of that and definitely worth your attention.
