Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate 2014
Mario Marengo Barolo Brunate 2014
Brunate is rightly considered by many to be one of the best vineyards in Barolo, maybe even the very best! Deeper and more compact than the Bricco delle Viole, but also broader, with an intense flavor palette and the very powerful structure, typical of the Brunate, and a very long aftertaste. An absolute highlight with a very long life ahead of it.

Monica Larner (The Wine Advocate): “The 2014 Barolo Brunate takes us to the more structured and robust side of the Nebbiolo spectrum. The Brunate cru in La Morra is known for its deeply saturated, enriched and elegant wines. This expression from Marco Marengo makes sure that a healthy dose of sheer elegance is part of that formula. The lighter and more ethereal character of the cool 2014 vintage also comes through. The results shown here are polished and finely textured, with blue fruit and dried currant followed by tar, licorice and spice. The finish is long and silky with excellent tannic management.” 94/100
Vinous (Antonio Galloni): “Marco Marengo’s 2014s are terrific. The entry-level Barolo sets a high bar, and the vineyard designates take things up from there. The 2014 Barolo Brunate is another powerful, imposing wine from Marco Marengo. Deep and pliant through the middle, with a huge core of fruit, the 2014 has much to offer. Black cherry, plum, lavender, leather and smoke infuse the deep, resonant finish. It will be interesting to see how the 2014 ages. At this stage, it clearly holds quite a bit of promise. In 2014, there is no Riserva, all the fruit was used for this, the straight Brunate bottling.” 93/100
